The American television series, Saturday Night Live (SNL), has delivered many of the actors that populate the road to Hollywood fame. The live and improvised nature of the show, each year gives a chance to several stars to appear and create characters created by them and the writing staff. And often, these characters are so popular that they end up having a movie itself. One of the best examples is probably the Mike Myers character that led to the 1992 comedy Wayne’s World. MacGruber is the same case, the film of a character created by writer Jorma Taccone.
As the name implies, MacGruber is a sketch of no more than two minutes where Will Forte does an imitation of the classic series MacGyver. He is always in some exotic place with a bomb about to explode and he asks for common objects to deactivate it, but something always happens eventually and the bomb explodes.
MacGruber Movie
The MacGruber movie will take a slightly different approach. Ten years after the assassination of his fiancee, MacGruber swears to fight crime with his own hands. When the Army needes to stop his archenemy, Dieter Von Cunth and find a stolen nuclear bomb, MacGruber joins several experts to fulfill the mission.
The MacGruber movie was written by the three who work week to week in the sketches of the character: Will Forte, Jorma Taconne and John Solomon. On the production side is the producer of SNL, Lorne Michaels and will be directed by Jorma Taccone, who was part of the weekly sketch. As for the actors, two are recurring each week, plus another character that is usually occupied by the weekly guest. Those who are reprising their roles aree Will Forte as MacGruber and Kristen Wig as his assistant, Vicki St. Elmo. The remaining roles are filled by Ryan Phillipe, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader and Val Kilmer as the villain, Dieter Von Cunth.

It seems strange to try to make a MacGruber movie based on a sketch of no more than two minutes, yet there is enough potential in the character to make a great comedy. MacGruber movie will be premiered on April 2010
