Although some time ago we talked about the MacGyver series leaping to the big screen, finally it seems that its TV parody MacGruber is algo getting his own movie. This character has become one of the most recurrent of American sketches Saturday Night Live, which even led him to create several Pepsi spots for the Superbowl with the original MacGyver Richard Dean Anderson included.
Its protagonist, Will Forte, announced on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon that he has already finished writing the screenplay with the John Solomon and Jorma Taccone (The World of Lost) to begin filming in summer. The cast will include SNL comedian Kristen Wiig.
Not surprisingly, Saturday Night Live already has much experience with the spin-off films, with varying luck both from critics and audiences. Among the most memorable are Blues Brothers, ConeHeads, Waterboy and the great Wayne’s World movie.
It was a fad of the 90s, but now that the program seems to have taken some relevance again, Michaels is ready to get the most return for his money.
