They're made because people will pay to see them. Remember: They're movies, not films. Kids would probably enjoy Furry Vengeance, even if it sucks horribly to someone with any sort of taste.

Believe it or not, even these "flops" still make money. Many of these movies you speak of, while agreeably horrible, make millions. Remember, just because it doesn't gross $1 billion like Avatar, doesn't mean they don't make any money at all. Indeed, $30 million when it comes to Hollywood is considered a flop, but if the thing only cost $10 million to make, then it still made money.

There are two main reasons "bad" screenplays get made into movies:

Firstly, no matter how bad the film -- say, When In Rome -- if it stars hot celebrities and follows a familiar story line (romantic comedy, of course, is easiest), people will go see it. Do you know how much money Death At a Funeral has made? Almost $35 million dollars. The profit of these cliche, "bad" films is too hard for some film executives to pass up. The actors don't generally mind, either, all the time. Think about Nic Cage -- he's crazy bankrupt, so I understand why he's coming out with a vampire movie later this year.

Also, some people that are a little different than you and me enjoy these "bad movies." As a movie critic and writer, it makes me cringe thinking that someone actually wrote the film Furry Vengance and was proud enough to put their name on it. Then I cringe at the casting director who put two of theworst actors of the generation, Brooke Shields and Brendan Fraser, in a movie. Still, a good friend of mine claims she likes these movies because they are by-the-book "feel-goods." She wants to "go to the movies to escape from all the sh*t" in her life. Why would she "want to watch more sh*t and feel worse" about her life? I don't think that's a good enough reason to suffer through 92 minutes of Brendan Fraser in a too-tight suit, but it's her perogative!

I don't know, but i agree on your pointed out horrible movies. all of those movies just sound terrible. My friend wanted me to come to "Death at a funeral" with her, but i lied because i knew i would hate it.

Maybe for the possibility of profit, maybe because people just get bored.
